For half a century, Europe ran on Russian gas — pipelines like Nord Stream, Yamal, and the Ukraine route fed Germany and the rest of the continent. Before 2022, Russia supplied about 40% of Europe's pipeline gas. Then Russia invaded Ukraine, gas became a weapon, and Nord Stream went offline. Europe had to replace decades of Russian energy almost overnight — and America was ready. LNG tankers streamed out of Gulf Coast terminals (Sabine Pass, Corpus Christi, Freeport) across the Atlantic to Europe. By 2025, Russia's pipeline share had collapsed to roughly 6%, the US supplied about 57% of the EU's LNG, and America became the world's #1 LNG exporter — ahead of Qatar and Australia. Russia pivoted to selling more gas to China, but lost its richest customer. America won an energy war without firing a shot.
